14th KARTINI AWARD at Surabaya Plaza Hotel

Celebrating Kartini's Day, Surabaya Plaza Hotel (SPH) cooperating with Pusat Studi Wanita - Universitas Airlangga (PSW-Unair) holds the 14th KARTINI AWARD. Kartini Awars is SPH annual program that has been running since 1995. The purpose of this program is to give appreciation to women who have unique profession and inherit the spirit of RA Kartini, a national heroine who endlessly fought for women emancipation in Indonesia.

Registration was opened from February 25 to March 31, 2008. It has received positive respons, and collected 29 candidates. The candidates came from Surabaya and surrounding areas such as Malang, Sidoarjo, Mojokerto, Nganjuk, Ponorogo, Bangkalan, and Pamekasan. 10 candidates were choses within the first and second week of April, continued with interview process by the judges from PSW-Unair.

Kartini Award 2008 is won by Rien Samudayati Guritno who owns Rumah Kebun and Art Gallery "De Daunan" in Ngandat, Junrejo, Batu, Malang. While Runner Up I and II positions were won by Supik Amin, owner of Tresno Ari Gallery in Bangkalan who exhibits art and culture of Madura, and Ernawati who is an artist of batik tulis from Mojokerto.

This year, Surabaya Plaza Hotel chose the theme of Tourism since it is related with SPH commitment to support the development of Indonesia tourism, especially in relation with Visit Indonesia Year 2008 program.
